Quick Start Half-Day Camps: June 10-14 and June 17-21;
8:30-11:30am or 1:00-4:00pm; Ages 5-10.
We will host Quick Start tennis camps at The Mickel Tennis Center at Furman University. Each session will focus on eye-hand coordination skills, basic stroke development and point play with lots of fun games! We will be using the proper size court and racquet for each child’s age and size. The morning session is 8:30-11:30am and the afternoon session is 1:00-4:00pm. Each camper receives a new Dunlop racquet fitted to the size of the camper at camp registration!!

* All camps are open to any and all entrants. Rates may be pro-rated upon request.
WHAT TO BRING:
All campers should bring a few snacks to eat and drinks of their choice when we take breaks. We will be outside so please apply sunscreen on your child and send him/her with a hat or visor. Also wear breathable clothes and smooth soled tennis shoes!
||Debbie Southern is in her 29th season as the head coach of the Furman women’s tennis team. The winningest women’s tennis coach in Paladin history, she picked up her 400th win during the 2011 season and entered the 2012 spring season with a 407-247 career record.
During her tenure at Furman, Southern has led her squads to 17 Southern Conference regular season crowns, 16 SoCon tournament titles, a .928 Southern Conference winning percentage (193-15), and an unbeaten record in regular-season league play dating from to 1998-2010 (100 matches). On December 4, 2004, Southern was recognized for her coaching efforts with her induction into the South Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame.
||Christine Johnston is in her second season as an assistant coach with the Furman women’s tennis team. Johnston, a native of Columbus, Ohio, was a member of the Kentucky women’s tennis team from 2007-2010, when the Wildcats competed in three consecutive NCAA Tournaments (2007-2009).
A two-time All-SEC selection for singles, Johnston was honored with the ITA’s Cissie Leary Award for Sportsmanship and was named to the SEC Community Service team her senior season after leading the Wildcats with a 13-7 (7-3 SEC) record. Johnston was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2007, 2008, and 2009.
|All camp counselors are hired by Debbie Southern with the intent of each camper receiving the highest quality instruction available with a large dose of fun. Many of Furman’s team members will be on staff as well as some qualified high school players and teachers. Our 1:5 instructors to camper ratio will ensure your son or daughter daily individualized instruction.
